Director of Operations
Location: Wiarton, Ontario
Reporting to: VP of Operations, Polycor Limestone & Marble
Purpose of Position
The Site Director of Operations will lead all aspects of business for Polycor Limestone & Marble in Wiarton Ontario, and other minor operations as assigned. The Director will provide the necessary leadership to achieve business goals/objectives, demonstrate a strong commitment to talent development and continuous improvement, while focusing on Safety, Quality and Customer Service. The Director will be responsible for all site operations functions including manufacturing, purchasing, inventory management, and capital expenditures from conception through post implementation evaluation. The Director is responsible for the monthly financial and operational performance to the budget for all departments. The Director will be accountable for the safety of all employees on site and for driving a site culture that supports all the above.
Nature of Work
This position performs professional duties requiring adherence to Polycor policies and procedures, standards of accuracy, timeliness, professional appearance, tact, and confidentiality. The position will be on an annual salary basis with a bonus opportunity. The job requires time at both the production operations and in the office with occasional travel.
Personal Contacts
Continual and demanding contact with direct staff, senior management, site employees, customers and potential customers, trade association members and the public. Position will require coordination of duties with employees and supervisors of other parts of the business to complete tasks.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe work environment with a cultural focus and clean facilities.
- Set the cultural tone for the site and goals for site operations.
- Ensure development of talent and future leaders through coaching and skill development.
- Reliably deliver to commitments with quality results.
- Ensure completion of near-term projects while working against a defined longer horizon site plan.
- Direct lean manufacturing policies that drive modification of production operations, and efficiency, to ensure alignment with strategic goals and drive for continuous improvement.
- Manage site operations performance and results. Includes, but not limited to, plant production goals, capacity planning, staffing, and shift management.
- Develop and maintain quality assurance processes to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate and coordinate with other departments as a single site team including but not limited to sales and administrative teams.
- Prepare and present production reports and data to a variety of stakeholders including staff and executive management team during monthly meetings and as needed.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure compliance with company best practices, procedures, and policies.
- Actively collaborate with Executive Management during the budgeting and capital review process supplying business and personal objectives to ensure key information regarding production, staffing and capital forecast is communicated and captured.
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience leading a multi department manufacturing operation by managing through managers.
- Experience managing projects and quality programs.
- Experience driving organizational development and culture (particularly safety culture)
- Proven track record of team leadership and direct management within a manufacturing environment
- Experience with executive interaction and communication.
- Bachelor’s degree in Production Engineering or relevant industrial production leadership
- Minimum 10 years’ experience leading a semi-custom products manufacturing facility, required.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience leading a building products production operation, preferred.
- Experience with production, maintenance and inventory systems and software. Microsoft AX a plus.
